Enter: Dave Carroll. He’s a local inventor and self-proclaimed environmentalist. Five years ago, a light bulb went on in his head to invent, or re-invent, none other than the light bulb itself. But not just any light bulb. He wanted to create a better LED light bulb to provide what customers wanted: affordable light bulbs that shine brightly, evenly and efficiently. As the inventor of the Insignia LED light bulb, he did just that with an energy-saving, high quality bulb at an affordable price. It uses 75 percent less energy than incandescent bulbs and is designed to have a product life of more than 22 years. It’s mercury- and gas-free, avoiding the toxic hazards of compact fluorescent bulbs (CFLs). Today, the LED bulb is sold in all U.S. Best Buy stores. “We save the customer a lot of money, and save the world from 11 percent of the growing CO2, making the change from other bulbs an easy decision,” said Dave. “It is easy to do what is right.”
