Best Buy Honors Employee Volunteers with President’s Volunteer Service Award

Award is Prestigious National Honor for Volunteer Service

MINNEAPOLIS, April 14, 2008– Best Buy Co., Inc. today announced that 156 of its employee volunteers will receive the 2007 President’s Volunteer Service Award, a national honor offered by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation in recognition of volunteer service.

Established in 2003, the award is available on an annual basis to individuals, groups and families who have met or exceeded requirements for volunteer service and have demonstrated exemplary citizenship through volunteering. As one of thousands of certifying organizations participating in the program, Best Buy confers the award to recognize the outstanding achievements of its employee volunteers.

During National Volunteer Week, April 27-May 3, 2008, Best Buy will deliver the President’s Volunteer Service Award to 156 employees who have contributed more than 100 hours of service each – a combined total of 38,841 hours.

“Best Buy is proud to be aligned with this prestigious volunteer award, and we are especially proud of our volunteers who have made service and citizenship a central part of their lives,” said Paula Prahl, vice president, public affairs, Best Buy.

Best Buy is committed to strengthening communities with employee-driven philanthropy. When employees volunteer their service, leadership and time, the Best Buy Children’s Foundation provides TagTeam Awards to qualified nonprofit organizations In fiscal year 2008, more than 20,000 employees volunteered 150,000 hours and contributed $3 million in Best Buy Children’s Foundation funds to local communities. Adding the value of volunteer time, calculated at $18.77 per hour by The Independent Sector, Best Buy employees contributed nearly $6 million to nonprofit organizations.

In 2003, President Bush created the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation to find ways to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers are making in our Nation. The Council brings together leaders from the worlds of business, entertainment, sports, education, government, nonprofits, and the media. The President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation created the President’s Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service
